We
begin our cruise adventure in: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Winner of the bid for the 2010 Winter Olympics, Vancouver
has been rightfully acknowledged as one
of the world's great cities. Beautifully situated between majestic mountains and
the Pacific Ocean, Vancouver boasts world class museums, galleries, boutiques,
colorful public markets, and restaurants of every ethnicity. You might
want to come in early and take a visit to vibrant Chinatown and Stanley Park,
with its 1,000 acres of forests, gardens, lakes and lawns in the heart of the
city.
Sunday you arrive at the cruise dock, board our luxury cruise ship and prepare
for
the journey of a lifetime! As we cruise through the Inside Passage the shimmering waterways,
towering mountains and ice-blue glaciers of America's
last true wilderness will unfold before you. An
on-board naturalist will
be on hand to present intriguing commentary throughout your cruise.
Cozy up in a teak lounge chair and watch Alaska's majestic
scenery glide by. Keep your eyes open, you never know when an eagle will soar
overhead or a pod of orca whales will appear!
Ketchikan,
Alaska
Known as "Alaska's First City," Ketchikan is Alaska's southern most port and the
first major town pioneers and prospectors came to heading north. Built out over
the water and climbing weathered stairways, Ketchikan clings to the shores of
Tongass Narrows and drapes the mountains with a cheerful air. Besides the main
attractions - Creek Street, the Tongass Historical Museum, Totem Bight State
Park and Saxman Village, try a flightseeing trip to breathtaking Misty Fjords
National Monument--a transformational adventure not to be missed. These deep
water fjords left by retreating glaciers left granite cliffs towering thousands
of feet above the sea and countless waterfalls cascading into placid waters.
An exhilarating water landing in Misty Fjords gives you the opportunity to
experience the silence, serenity, and monumental beauty that surrounds you.
Juneau, Alaska
Located at the foot of grand mountain peaks on the Gastineau Channel, the town
of Juneau, Alaska's capital city, has the massive Mendenhall Glacier and the
immense Juneau Icefields at its back door. Juneau is the place to let your
imagination run wild. Explore the lush Tongass National Forest. Visit the rustic
shops in town. Or get out and kayak, dogsled, raft, hike, whale watch, flightsee
or fish. There’s no end to the adventure because of the long daylight hours.
Climb aboard the Mt. Roberts Tramway for a great spot to hike and shoot a
souvenir photo.
Skagway,
Alaska
The sidewalks are all but rolled up in Skagway come winter, so you can only
imagine the frightful conditions endured by the gold prospectors who passed
through en route to the Yukon, with a mandatory ton of supplies to be hauled
with them over the steep and treacherous Trail of '98. Today, summertime visits
to Skagway require nothing of the sort, but you can still ride the antique White
Pass & Yukon narrow-gauge railway up through silvery-purple rock faces, past
Deadhorse Gulch, to see what it was like back then.
Take your time and poke into every little store from the Trail Bench to Lynch &
Kennedy's Dry Goods. The Red Onion Saloon, with its honky-tonk piano and
costumed barmaids, is a treasure trove of memorabilia featuring pictures of
Klondike Kate, Peahull Annie and other vintage characters. To complete the
picture of those rip-roaring days, visit the nostalgic Trail of '98 Museum. The
Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park boasts restored buildings and wooden
boardwalks that invite you to take a stroll into the past.

Glacier Bay National Park
Marvel at nature's unrelenting power as you witness the birth of massive
icebergs calving from gigantic glaciers. Glacier Bay National Park has more
actively calving tidewater glaciers than anywhere else on earth. As a Biosphere
Reserve and World Heritage Site, Glacier Bay National Park also protects a
unique ecosystem of plants and animals. Search for humpback and killer whales,
Stellar sea lions and harbor seals and eagles.
College
Fjord
Only one place in Alaska surrounds you on three sides with flowing rivers of
ice. College Fjord is an awesome assemblage of Ice Age wonders named after the
nation's leading Ivy League colleges. Yale, Bryn Mawr and Vassar line up to
starboard and port with Harvard at the head creating the greatest density of
tidewater glaciers in Alaska.
Seward, Alaska%20Alaska.jpg)
The cruise portion of our adventure ends in Seward (Anchorage) Alaska.
Anchorage, beautifully situated on Cook Inlet and surrounded by the Chugach
Mountains, is a hub of activity with everything from fine restaurants and
frontier saloons to museums and art galleries. It is from here that those
of you who have chosen to join us on the land tour will take the road less
traveled and discover the back roads beauty of Alaska. If you are not able
to join us for the land tour, consider extending your stay in this cosmopolitan
city of Anchorage and take advantage of the many optional tours that spotlight Alaska's
history, culture and outdoors lifestyle. You may want to visit the Alaska Native
Heritage Center, where village elders and apprentice youth - known as Native
Tradition Bearers - demonstrate the time-honored customs and crafts of the
various Native groups.

Kenai: Where Alaskans
Go to Vacation!
It's easy to see why the Kenai
Peninsula is a favorite even among Alaskans. The lush, primeval forests
host legendary rivers running with salmon. The glistening waters of
glacier-scoured Kenai Fjords National Park are home to whales, dolphins, sea
lions and sea otters. The Alaska Maritime Wildlife Refuge and Kenai
Wildlife Refuge provide more seabird habitat than anywhere else in the world.
This exciting Homer and Kenai Peninsula tour takes you far off the beaten
track with just one
group
of fellow travelers. Come experience with us the best of Alaska all in one place!
Kenai
Fjords National Park Cruise
As we disembark our cruise ship in Seward we will be met by our Tour Director. It is
here that our off the beaten path tour of Alaska begins as we enjoy an
intimate national park dayboat cruise! We will get close to bird rookeries
and seal haul-outs and watch for whales, Dall's porpoises and sea otters.
Beautifully situated between Resurrection Bay and Mt. Marathon, Seward is the
gateway to scenic Kenai Fjords National Park. Tonight we will overnight in
lovely Seward!

Kenai Peninsula Sightseeing to Homer
Today we will travel the Sterling Highway past mountains, rustic homesteads and
one picturesque town after another. There's Soldotna, the Kenai National
Wildlife Refuge and more to see before arriving in Homer, located literally at
the end of the road.
Homer,
Alaska
On the southern Kenai Peninsula, Homer is located on the pristine waters of Kachemak
Bay and Cook Inlet, in the shadow of the Kenai Mountains. The second largest
city on the peninsula, Homer boasts the geographical anomaly that locals call
“The Spit.” 15,000 years ago, a glacier covering Kachemak Bay pushed a five-mile
long gravel bar toward Cook Inlet. After the glaciers retreated, this bar
remained. Today, it is a bustling port where visitors can stroll its beaches and
boardwalks.
Visit Pratt Museum, where you can learn the natural history of the bay and the
southern Kenai Peninsula. Start a tour of the harbor by exploring the galleries
of local artists or rest for a spell at the Salty Dawg Saloon, which dates back
to the late 1800’s. At low tide, walk the sand and marvel at the life in the
tide pools. If you’re lucky, you may just spot an eagle soaring overhead or
catch seals, otters and sea lions enjoying the view along with you.
Sterling Highway to Cooper Landing
Today continue your exploration of Alaska's favorite playground on your way
to this stunning Kenai River setting. Nestled in the heart of the Kenai
Peninsula—home to massive glaciers on its eastern portion and both the Sargent
and Harding Icefields—Cooper Landing is the outpost for some of the best fishing
in the world and stretches along the Kenai River. Discover the past at the
Historical Society Museum, comprised of two historic buildings. One of these,
Jack Lean's Cabin, was built in the late 1920's and was the home of the Cooper
Landing Post Office for 40 years. The School House was built in 1955 and used
until September 2001. Here, you can also learn more about the town’s namesake,
Joseph Cooper. An overnight stay in this region rich with native heritage and
tranquil scenery completes your Kenai experience.
Portage
Lake Cruise, Seward Highway to Anchorage
Enjoy a renowned local excursion--Holland America's exclusive mv
Ptarmigan cruise to Portage Glacier. Then, on the way to Anchorage, we drive
the Seward Highway along Turnagain Arm, watching for beluga whales and abundant
bird life. As you come into Anchorage, marvel at the modern skyline backed by an
even more dazzling array of sky-high mountains. It is time to say “good-bye” to your Tour
Director as you check into your downtown hotel for a night in Alaska’s largest city.
Tour Ends the next morning in Anchorage.
As part of
our private group you will enjoy two special concerts by the
Chad Mitchell Trio and Tom Paxton and will join us at 2 private receptions
