Will be exploring America in 2008!

Join them on the luxurious Queen of the West
as they travel the Columbia, Snake, & Willamette Rivers
cruising round trip from Portland, Oregon
October 12 - 19, 2008!

The scale of the mountains, the strength of its rivers, that blue expanse of sky:  The wide-open West has always fostered big dreams.  Lewis and Clark blazed the way for early pioneers who were drawn to the area to fish, trap and log.  The draw today:  unparalleled natural beauty at every turn.  Prepare for lush coastal forests, deep canyons etched with petroglyphs, sparkling waterfalls, and more bridges, locks and dams than on a Panama Canal cruise.  The Columbia, Snake and Willamette Rivers are true American treasures!  These and many more American treasures await, on a journey that unfolds over the course of 1,000 spectacular miles.  We hope you can join us!

Stretching east from Portland, the Columbia River carries you through towering peaks laced with waterfalls that give way to broad, bronzed plateaus.  The wind picks up at Hood River, providing some of the
world's best windsurfing.

Monday - October 13, 2008 - The Dalles, Hood River, Columbia River Gorge
Enter the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area and experience nature's cathedral.  You won't believe your eyes as you step out onto the deck to view Multnomah Falls and soak up the glory that's all around.  Towering overhead are 4,000 foot-high cliffs and cascading down one granite face after another are lacy waterfalls.  Marvel at the impressive rise of Beacon Rock, the Gibraltar of the West.  Ashore, you'll visit the Columbia Gorge Discovery center.  Additional highlights?  Transits of Bonneville, The Dalles, and John Day Locks.

Tuesday - October 14, 2008 - Pendleton, Umatilla Landing, Columbia & Snake River Cruising
Visit the Pendleton Woolen Mill and take a Pendleton Underground Tour of a district that boasts buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.  Also, the Tamastslikt Cultural Center offers a glimpse into the rich heritage of the Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla tribes.  It's a full day of adventure and you'll lock through McNary, Ice Harbor, Lower Monumental, Little Goose and Lower Granite Locks.

Wednesday - October 15, 2008 - Clarkston, Lewiston, Snake River Cruising
Panoramic vistas soothe mind and body as you follow the majestic Snake River along its tumbling course to North America's deepest canyon.  Here, you'll disembark for a scenic jet boat ride through a rural section of the Snake River nested deep between the jagged walls of North America's deepest gorge.  Watch for wildlife like big horn sheep, elk, and mule deer, and keep an eye on the sky for majestic eagles.

Thursday - October 16, 2008 - The Great River Cruising

Pull up a rocking chair and listen to the relaxing churn of the paddlewheel.  Today, your senses will be filled with the wide-open spaces that flank the river.  Against this ever-changing backdrop, the pleasures of your elegant cruise ship unfold.  Dine, dance, enjoy the camaraderie of your shipmates and surrender yourself to the rejuvenating effect of total relaxation.

Friday - October 17, 2008 - Rainier, Longview, Mount St. Helens, Columbia River Cruising
The contrast of nature's ability to create and destroy is an overriding theme of a day tour to one of Mt. St. Helen's visitor centers.  Back in 1980, the earth trembled as the great mountain erupted in a huge cataclysm.  Yet today, you can see signs that nature is renewing itself.  Back on your ship, let the day soak in as you celebrate another festive evening on the river.

Saturday - October 18, 2008 - Astoria, Lower Columbia River Cruising
Astoria offers many points of historical interest.  It marks the completion of the Lewis and Clark quest and is the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies.  Enjoy its colorful attractions from Fort Clatsop and the Columbia River Maritime Museum to the Coxcomb Hill viewpoint.  Capture a photo at the Astoria Column, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Sunday - October 19, 2008 - Portland, Oregon
